In Economy, Air France gives you one cabin bag (55 × 35 × 25 cm, up to 12 kg combined with your personal item) plus one under-seat personal item. That's the rule for most tickets. If you booked an Economy Light or Basic fare, read the section below before you pack.

Your two bags and what they must measure
Cabin bag (overhead bin): maximum 55 × 35 × 25 cm (21.7 × 13.8 × 9.8 in). That includes handles, wheels, and any external pockets when fully packed. If it bulges past those numbers at the gate, staff at Charles de Gaulle (the strictest airport on the network) will ask you to check it.
Personal item (under-seat bag): maximum 40 × 30 × 15 cm (15.7 × 11.8 × 5.9 in). A laptop bag, small backpack, or large handbag typically fits. It must slide under the seat in front of you without forcing.

Economy Light and Basic fares: read before you fly
Air France sells discounted Economy Light (sometimes called Basic) tickets that do not automatically include an overhead cabin bag. With these fares, your allowance is typically just the personal item (under-seat bag only).
You can add carry-on access after booking, up to 4 hours before departure. Buy it through Manage My Booking on airfrance.com rather than at the airport, where it will cost significantly more. Check your booking confirmation: it will state clearly whether a "bagage cabine" is included.
Check your fare before you pack
Economy Light tickets do not include an overhead bin bag. If you show up at the gate with a standard carry-on and haven't paid for it, Air France will check it into the hold and you may pay a fee. Log into your booking to verify your allowance before travelling.
Liquids, sharp objects, and what security will stop
The standard EU 100 ml liquid rule applies on all Air France departures from European airports: liquids must be in containers of 100 ml or less, placed in a single clear resealable bag no larger than 1 litre. This applies to water, toiletries, gels, and creams.
- Duty-free liquids bought after security in a sealed bag are allowed in the cabin.
- Sharp objects (scissors over 6 cm, knives, razors with exposed blades) must go in checked baggage.
- Lithium batteries (power banks, spare laptop batteries) must stay in the cabin, not in checked bags.
- Medications and baby milk are exempt from the 100 ml limit but may be checked at security.
One thing most travellers miss
Air France measures your bag dimensions with everything inside. A bag that is exactly 55 × 35 × 25 cm when empty will fail the check if packed items push out the sides. Soft-sided bags that compress easily are your safest bet. If you regularly fly with a rigid carry-on that maxes out the size limit, weigh it before you leave home and leave room for the bag to sit squarely in the sizer.
