ANA miles expire in 36 months, one-way awards launched June 2025, and Amex transfers 1:1. Here's what matters before you book.

How to earn miles fast
Flying ANA earns between 30pct and 150pct of the miles you fly, depending on your fare class. Economy saver fares (O, I, R, X) earn nothing. If you're booking a discounted international ticket, check the fare basis code before you buy.
Credit cards are your fastest non-flying route:
- Amex Membership Rewards transfers 1:1 to ANA, and as of late February 2026 the temporary pause that hit transfers is resolved.
- Marriott Bonvoy transfers at 3:1, with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 Bonvoy points you move across.
- Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou do not transfer to ANA.
- The ANA Card U.S.A. (First National Bank of Omaha, $70/year) earns ANA miles directly on spend, but the transfer card routes often beat it for day-to-day earning.

What your miles are actually worth
Since June 24, 2025, ANA allows one-way award bookings on both ANA and Star Alliance partners. One-way pricing is exactly half the round-trip rate, which makes routing much more flexible than before.

Business class to North America jumped to 82,500 miles one-way (165,000 round-trip) from June 2025, an 83pct increase over 18 months. Economy rates remained more stable.
One gotcha worth knowing
The Star Alliance Round-the-World ticket is gone. ANA stopped accepting new bookings on June 23, 2025. If you had one in mind, it's no longer an option.
Partner airline awards (United, Lufthansa, Singapore, etc.) start from 7,500 miles one-way for short-haul. Availability on partner metal is tighter than on ANA itself, so search 11 months out and stay flexible on dates.
How to actually book
- Go to ana.co.jp, log in to your Mileage Club account.
- Choose "International Flight Award" (or Domestic, or Partner Flight Award).
- Select one-way or round-trip and search by date range.
- If your first-choice date shows no availability, shift by one or two days: ANA releases award seats in small batches.
ANA's own website is the only place to book ANA-operated awards with miles. For Star Alliance partner flights on other carriers, you book through the same portal under "Partner Flight Awards."
