ANA offers free WiFi on domestic flights and is rolling out free high-speed Viasat internet on international routes from 2025. Here's what to expect.
ANA is in the middle of a major WiFi upgrade. On domestic routes, WiFi is already free for everyone. On international routes, free high-speed internet for all cabins is rolling out now, with most of the fleet covered by 2030.

Domestic flights: connect and forget
On every ANA domestic route inside Japan, WiFi is free and unlimited for all passengers. No voucher, no code, no paid plan. Connect through the onboard portal once you reach cruising altitude and you are done.
Speeds are fine for messaging and light browsing. Do not expect video calls to be flawless, but basic tasks work reliably.
International flights: it depends on your aircraft
ANA is splitting its international fleet into two tiers right now.
Aircraft with Viasat (the new system):
ANA began fitting its Boeing 767-300ER fleet with Viasat's Amara satellite system in 2025. Three aircraft were upgraded by the end of FY 2025, with all six 767-300ERs done by FY 2026. New orders (Boeing 777-9 and additional 787-9s) will also come Viasat-equipped from delivery. The goal is over 80 pct of the international fleet by the end of 2030.
On these aircraft, WiFi is free for all cabins (Economy, Premium Economy, Business, First). The system is built for video streaming, not just messaging.
Aircraft without Viasat (the majority right now):
On most international flights today (787-8, 787-9, 777, A380), the setup is older:
- Business and First Class: Free, unlimited. ANA emails you a voucher at least two hours before departure. Check your booking email or ask the crew if you do not receive it.
- Premium Economy and Economy: Messaging only, free. To browse the web or stream, you buy a paid pass.

How to connect (step by step)
- Enable airplane mode, then turn WiFi back on.
- Select the ANA inflight network from your device's WiFi list.
- Open any browser: the portal page loads automatically.
- If you are in Business or First on a legacy aircraft, enter your voucher code. If you are on a Viasat-equipped flight, just accept the terms.
- Connection is available roughly 5 minutes after takeoff until 5 minutes before landing (local regulations may shorten this window on certain routes into Japan).
Check before you board
ANA aircraft with Viasat display a designated placard at the door. If you do not see it, your flight is on legacy equipment. Economy passengers on a long-haul 787 or 777 should buy a paid pass at the portal if they need more than messaging.
What about speed and streaming?
On Viasat-equipped aircraft, ANA describes the service as capable of "a ground-like internet experience in the air." Viasat's Amara platform is the same generation used on other carriers offering reliable video streaming at altitude. Real-world speeds will vary with the number of active users and your position relative to the satellite footprint.
On legacy aircraft, the system is slower. Paid passes work for browsing and streaming at lower quality, but heavy video calls are hit-or-miss on crowded long-haul routes.
Bottom line
Flying ANA domestically: WiFi is free, no action needed. Flying internationally: check which aircraft operates your route. If it is a B767-300ER after August 2025, you get free high-speed WiFi in any seat. Otherwise, Business and First fly free on the old system; Economy passengers pay from $6.95 or stick to messaging.
