Exact flight times to Seoul's Incheon Airport from New York, London, Paris, Sydney, and more, with layover options and jet lag tips.
Incheon International Airport (ICN) handles virtually all international arrivals into South Korea, sitting 48 km west of central Seoul with a 63-minute AREX express rail link to Seoul Station. Knowing your real block time, wheels-up to wheels-down, is the first step to planning your recovery.
Direct Flight Durations by Departure City
These are published scheduled block times for nonstop services in economy. Actual gate-to-gate wheels time is typically 10–20 minutes shorter.

Where Layovers Make Sense
Not every city offers a nonstop option, and even when one exists the fare premium can be steep. The most common one-stop hubs for Korea routing are:
- Tokyo Narita or Haneda (NRT/HND), adds roughly 4–5 hours total travel; useful from smaller North American cities without Korean Air codeshares.
- Hong Kong (HKG) via Cathay Pacific, popular from Southeast Asia, Australia, and secondary European cities; a long 12-hour layover gives visa-free access to Central.
- Singapore (SIN) via Singapore Airlines, works well from Oceania and South/Southeast Asia; Changi's Terminal 3 lounge access is a genuine perk on a 4-hour layover.
- Frankfurt (FRA) or Amsterdam (AMS) via Lufthansa/KLM, catches northern and eastern European markets.
- Doha (DOH) via Qatar Airways, competitive fares from Europe, Africa, and South America, with a 1-to-9-hour layover window.
Minimum layover to bank on: 90 minutes at ICN for connections; 2 hours at NRT; 2 hours 30 minutes at DXB. ICN's own transit hotel (inside security, Concourse A, rates from KRW 60,000 for 4 hours) suits travellers threading a tight overnight layover before an onward domestic leg on either Jeju Air or T'way.
The Jet Lag Reality
Korea Standard Time (KST) is UTC+9 and does not observe daylight saving. That means:
- From Eastern US (UTC-4 in summer): 13 hours ahead. Flying eastbound overnight, you land mid-morning local time having lost nearly a full night.
- From Western Europe (UTC+1/+2): 7–8 hours ahead. The most disorienting direction: you land in the evening but your body reads 11 a.m.
- From Australia east coast (UTC+10/+11): Only 1–2 hours behind KST. The shortest circadian adjustment of any long-haul corridor.

Practical Arrival Tips
AREX direct train (40 min, KRW 9,500) runs from Incheon T1 and T2 to Seoul Station. The all-stop commuter service (51 min, KRW 4,150) hits Hongik University and Suseo if you are heading to the Gangnam side.
T-money card (available at the airport GS25 convenience store from KRW 4,000 blank) works on the AREX commuter service, all Seoul Metro lines, and buses, load it before you leave the arrivals hall. Contactless Visa/Mastercard tapping works on subway turnstiles as of 2024 but not yet on buses.
Immigration queues at peak times (Sunday evenings, golden-week holidays) can add 45–90 minutes. ICN runs a Smart Entry Service (SES) kiosk system for repeat visitors who pre-enroll; eligible nationalities include US, EU, and Australian passport holders after a single manual fingerprint registration on a prior visit.
The most important number to remember: block time plus the AREX ride is your true "door to hotel lobby" figure. Add an hour for immigration and bag claim, and you have a realistic arrival window to brief your accommodation and your body clock.
How many hours is a flight to South Korea?
There is no single answer: flight time depends on the departure city, nonstop availability, winds and the airport in Korea. Compare the scheduled block time—not just airborne time—and leave a buffer for immigration and ground transport after landing.
